Another pic of my garden cake! It was a courgette-chocolate cake with a courgette from my actual garden. Nothing elaborate but it was delicious!

PSA: *Beware* AI-generated fungi guudebooks!!
…Not a phrase I imagined myself typing today. But, via @heyMAKWA on Twitter:
“i’m not going to link any of them here, for a variety of reasons, but please be aware of what is probably the deadliest AI scam i’ve ever heard of:
“plant and fungi foraging guide books. the authors are invented, their credentials are invented, and their species IDs will kill you”
…So please be careful if you run across anything of this kind.
NOOOOO

Middle-aged magical girl.
She’s been defending the Earth since the early 90s and she’s very tired.
My name is Tominaga Haruka. I was chosen by a magical talking animal, and for the last 29 years I’ve been Earth’s one and only… Wonder-Sparkle Princess.
she’s been fighting the same villains for three decades and they are also tired of it. Most of them aren’t giving it their all.
Half of them are in a groupchat they’ve added her to where they schedule their evil plans to make sure they don’t interfere with each other, or more importantly, with *her*
Xalkrax the space demon from outer space decided to attack the city when she was taking her vacation time once, and now he’s dead, because even the power of friendship and redemption can’t save you if you interrupt her rare vacationsDemon Queen Eluria: Gonna fill the city people’s hearts with hatred on thursday to cause mayhem and discord.
Wonder-Sparkle Princess: Can’t, got a PTA meeting.
Demon Queen Eluria: Friday?
Wonder-Sparkle Princess: A birthday party.
Demon Queen Eluria: Damn. How about I fill just the mayor’s heart with hatred then?
Wonder-Sparkle Princess: That’d be redundant, lol. Maybe fill his heart with a desire to fix the fucking potholes?!
Demon Queen Eluria: LMFAO love you, bitch. Stay strong.
Wonder-Sparkle Princess: You too, gurl. How’s the husband? Still dead?
Demon Queen Eluria: Yep. Thanks for that, btw.
Wonder-Sparkle Princess: Don’t mess with my time off :p

I’m still thinking about that “is OSHA regulations Cop Behavior” post. Like. You know who thinks regulations are for losers? People who build submersibles out of logitech gamepads and rejected carbon fibre. People who trust starlink as their only surface lifeline.
Do you wanna be like the fine film on the floor of the Atlantic that was once a billionaire? Is that the hill you’re really gonna die on?
We have an expression in my field- “Regulations Are Written In Blood”
People don’t have fucking safety standards as a power trip, we have them because somewhere in the past, NOT having those regulations killed or maimed someone.
A lot of laws out there are bullshit- safety regulations sure as fuck aren’t. I have the literal scars to prove it.
Please please please remember that bosses and CEOs hate safety regulations.
Doing things safely cuts into their profits and lets workers survive long enough to learn.
If you’re ever irritated at how long it takes to be safe?
Remember your bosses hate it twice as much!
Then be even safer.
Safety regulations are there because businesses see workers as expendable.

I have cried over the good Sister’s letter till I can feel it wet against my bosom, where it lies. It is of Jonathan, and must be next my heart, for he is in my heart.
Mina is so smitten.
The letter that he has seen and touched must comfort me till we meet.
There’s something to be said about longing here.
He cannot see and touch her, but this letter that his eyes and hands have contacted will do as an indirect touch. And she’s keeping it against her bosom, where she says she can feel it.

Certain adaptations: Jonathan and Mina aren’t interesting enough as a couple to carry the story. We need forbidden romance with the Count.
Mina, in the book: Writes the most heart-rendingly beautiful diary entry about how relieved she is to hear from Jonathan and immediately rushes to his side.
Mina: His hands have touched this letter and so I have pressed it to my breast so that his hands will touch me there in spirit until I can see him in the flesh
People: She is soooo sexless

kahuna-burger asked:
I loved the "gun-axe" with the dagger, because the idea was at least potentially practical - if your weapon has been swung into something it won't easily pry out of, the backup weapon is already in your hand, and presumably a twist away.
I also found myself wanting to end the presentation of combo weapons with a scene from original Macgyver - "Hey man, that's an uzi!" "Now it's a wrench."
Reaction to this post.
Indian axes and picks often had extra features of one kind or another, though a dagger screwed into the haft seems so common that I sometimes wonder if it could be considered as “secret”.
Oddly enough the only Indian weapons without this kind of screw-in dagger - at least I’ve never seen pictures of any - are the various styles of mace, and I have no idea why.
This axe also has a built-in gun…
…although since the axe-head is mounted alongside the barrel, it’s more a gun with a built-in axe.
Obviously the screw-in dagger trick won’t work with a sword, since its tang is in the way, but there are other methods; for instance here’s a khanda broadsword with a katar punch-dagger that clips to one side, and a single-shot gun built into the other.
That katar could have had more features itself: a couple more pistols…
…or a hand-guard and a couple more blades…
…or a hand-guard and a LOT more blades…
…though now we’re into hard-to-wear territory, also Just Showing Off.
Even a plain-seeming katar might not be as plain as all that, with a scissors mechanism turning one blade into three…
…or into two blades and a gun.
I’ve mentioned more than once that anyone creating a fantasy weapon should check out what Indian weaponsmiths did for real - and this post hasn’t even touched on how they put sword-hilts on things that weren’t swords, or made blades in weird shapes Because They Could.
I’ve blogged about both in the past, so take a look… :->

Nothing makes your native language feel foreign like having speakers of another language look at it a bit too closely in the way you do when words are new & intriguing entities instead of transparent conveyors of meaning. It’s delightful. I saw someone explain that rendez-vous is the 2nd person imperative of the French verb “se rendre” = to go (somewhere) and “dépareillé” (mismatched) comes from the word ‘pareil’ (same) so rendez-vous is just “you go (there)” and our word for mismatched is just “unsamed” and as a French speaker it was so destabilising. I had never looked at the word dépareillé and thought ‘unsamed’ in my life, it felt dignified and whole until you poked it. My English speaking cousin asked me what was our word for memo and I said “pense-bête” and he translated “think-dumb? we say memorandum and you say think-dumb?” and I was like nooo stop doing this

Both Parties are not the same.
I just wanted to bring this back with some pictures of Democratic Governors signing bills to expand access to free meals at school
one party wants to feed kids, one party wants to starve them, you pick which one you’re on.
“Butbutbut both parties are CAPITALIST-!!”
YEAH SO YOU GOTTA BASE YOUR DECISION ON WHO GETS TO RUN THINGS BASED ON LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE EACH PARTY STANDS FOR.(via onyxbird)
